We know that the resources of our planet are increasingly scarce, and it becomes evident that we can no longer continue with this culture of waste.
With this in mind, we create and perform garden projects and external areas, based on sustainable premises, helping in this way to create a culture of rational and optimized use of natural resources.
A sustainable garden is a garden that performs its aesthetic function without neglecting environmental issues.
The insertion of these concepts, lead us to a change of values bringing a new way of thinking, and with this, allowing a better quality of life for us, our family and our environment.
In this page, get to know some projects performed by our office, and 33 sustainable strategies that we can develop, individually or jointly, to the external areas of your home.

What is Sustainability

Sustainability is a term used to define human actions and activities to meet the current needs of human beings, without compromising the future of next generations, using natural resources (forests, jungles, rivers, lakes, oceans) in an intelligent way to that they will continue in the future.

It is defined as the ability of the natural environment to maintain the conditions and quality of life for people and other species, taking into account habitability, the beauty of the environment and its role as a source of renewable energy, while maintaining a reasonable use of land resources and preserving species and natural habitats.

This concept was developed by the environmental thinker Lester Brown in the early 1980s and was used in the Brundtland Report prepared and published by the World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987 in order to make countries develop more sustainable ways of survival.

Since then, different areas such as architecture, business and technology have assimilated this definition.

Sustainability is dynamically related to the sectors of the economy and the environment, meaning that, it involves the withdrawal of raw materials from nature for the development of consumer goods, which can generate unsustainability.

For example, an unsustainable country is one that uses environmental resources to turn its economy around, but does not provide enough time for nature to rebuild itself and thus provide new resources in the future.

Already an economically well-resourced country is one that has countless sustainable attitudes, which generate more time for the recovery of natural resources and the prosperity of living beings.

An example of a sustainable country is one that uses clean and renewable energies such as solar, wind, hydro or tidal, among others, which pollute less than non-renewable fossil fuels used by unsustainable nations.

Also, a country that takes care of the exploitation of vegetal resources of forests and jungles, guaranteeing the replanting; preservation of green areas not intended for economic exploitation; recycling of solid waste and exploitation of the gas released from landfills as an energy source; has controlled water consumption, in order to avoid waste, besides the assumption of measures that aim at non-pollution of water resources. Also, in these countries, people are choosing more for public transport or bicycles.

They practice organic farming, which is intended for the production of food and other plant products not making use of synthetic chemicals or genetically modified organisms, which harms nature and are harmful to health.

They also have some technologies, such as the smart grid, that use meters and sensors throughout the network avoiding waste by preventing clandestine connections during the distribution of energy, reducing waste, thus indirectly reducing the environmental impact caused by the electric power generated in coal plants, commonly installed in countries that invest little in sustainability.

In conclusion, sustainability encourages companies to take good actions, such as the installation of filters against pollution, sewage treatment plants, recycling stations and the reuse of materials, which respectively reduce the disposal of greenhouse effect gases in the atmosphere, avoiding the pollution of the rivers and promoting and improving the quality of life of the people who live around the factories, as well as cities in general.

Sustainability is the ability of human beings to use environmental resources to satisfy their current needs without using extra natural resources.

Why Have a Sustainable Garden

Sustainability teaches us to have more balanced behaviors on a daily basis, such as degrading the environment less, making use of few or no resources that directly affect nature.

And how can we do that? Through the intelligent use of natural resources, ensuring that they have longevity, that is, they hold for the future.

In this way, we can do our part, bringing as much as possible, the various sustainable strategies existing, into the place we inhabit.

With Innovation, and awareness of the importance of environmental preservation beyond the conscious use of our natural resources, we can create projects that largely meet these needs, and that create the maximum of positive impacts within the integration of the architecture with all its surroundings.

When you make use of native plants and of different sizes and functions, you are helping to restore the local and natural Biome; the use of green roofs and walls helps to create thermal and acoustic comfort, reducing the use of energy-efficient appliances while still aiding in the purification of air; the creation of an orchard and vegetable garden, also with native species, help to attract birds, bees, butterflies and wild animals of the region, as well as to promote their own food production and increase the social interaction of the residents; with the application of xeriscaping, that would be the use of vegetal species that need little water to survive, you help to save water; with the creation of cisterns to collect and store rainwater, it can be used in plant irrigation, floor cleaning and plant irrigation; with the use of faucets, pots and showers, connected with timers, you also help reduce water expenditure; with the

installation of an automatic irrigation system you provide even more economical water, as the system helps to promote only the amount needed for each plant species.

You can continue with sustainable actions, creating drainage systems with grates in necessary places, and still using drainage floors that allow better soil permeability, thus recharging the aquifers.

Still in the part of awareness of low energy consumption, it is important to perform the lighting of every garden only with the use of LED bulbs in the spots.

You can also opt for the use of solar panels, which capture and store energy from the sun, to be used in lighting, irrigation controller, shower timers, faucets, and also in the use of outdoor fireplace, gate automation and security cameras.

The use of recycled wood and recycled materials also helps the environment, since the raw material is only removed from areas of management and conscious withdrawals.

Finally, there are several actions that can be applied in living environments and housing, providing help to preserve the environment, but also facilitating the lives of residents and regulars.

All these strategies, many of them interconnected, produce an easy life in the daily life, because with its constant use, maintenance is diminished and with this, also the saving of financial resources.
